Learning, Safety & Caring

Welcome to Mission Charter School (K-8)

Mission Charter School is a small learning community that believes students learn more by doing.

Our instruction model is one of thematic, integrated, hands-on curricula.

Mission Charter School provides students with the opportunity to be creative, develop higher level thinking skills, make decisions, and develop independent learning strategies through the utilization of centers of education.

Mission creates a setting where one  can participate in curricula designed to educate the whole person.

Courses are rigorous, interesting, and integrated across all subjects.

What is a Charter School?

Charter Schools are a bold initiative in school reform established by Arizona legislation in 1994. Charter schools are designed to improve student achievement and offer educational choice in publicly funded schooling.

Charter schools are allowed to operate independently of some of the restrictions placed on traditional public schools. Schools that are approved by the Arizona State Charter Board sign a contract or charter with the board enabling the school to receive public funds.

In exchange for increased freedom in operations and curriculum, charter schools have an increased level of accountability in student achievement.

Charter Schools are an increasing national trend. Over half of the States have passed charter legislation.

Hundreds of charter schools have opened nationwide. Arizona currently has the strongest charter legislation with more than 500 charter schools in operation.

Considering a change of pace for your child?

Why not invest a few moments of your time to consider us.  If you want a structured environment where the student-to-teacher ratio is low, we can provide that.

Do you want a safe environment?  What a silly question.  Of course you do.  Because our size is small, supervision by our administration and teachers never leaves the child alone.  We do not want to constrain a child's enthusiasm and energy but we want to help them express it in safe and useful ways.

Are you looking for a place where scholastic achievement is emphasized along with and including the child's emotional development?

Look no further.  Mission Schools prides itself on its record of safety and supervision all with an eye to provide the very best academically, socially, and emotionally.

A Chihuly Christmas Tree!

A field trip on December 11, 2008 took our kids to the Desert Botanical Gardens in Phoenix. Ms. McDermott, art teacher at MCS, had been Detail of the Chihuly Christmas treepreparing them for a day decorating a Christmas tree for the public to see. Using techniques employed by Dale Chihuly, world-renowned glass artist, the kids made ornaments in class that now decorate that tree.
